Who Can Sit Here?
As a queer person, I’ve often felt my identity overtly excluded from traditional social spaces like weddings, ceremonies, and family gatherings. This installation reflects on the exclusivity and hegemonic structures these sites often uphold. I projected my short film “Pelli neeku sobhanam naaku” that I made prior to this installation which was an attempt made to create a fictional space and subvert the theme of marriage through a queer lens. Drawing on drag aesthetics and appropriating comedic pop culture references, particularly those that portray diverse or queer communities, I collaborated with artists Patruni Sastry and Shreya Tamisetty to question the rigidity surrounding love, sexuality and marriage in Indian society.
